May I recommend
The Americans, TV show.
De retour, babiiiiiiiiieeeees!
After a lovely summer of travel, cottages, lakes, friends, a heat rash, an unmanageable amount of zucchini, the Diefenbunker and Taylor Swift I am back and energized and invigorated to write this newsletter. Woot! Woot!
Coming in hot with my September recommendation is a TV show that ended five years ago.
You are nothing if not relevant, and cool, Amy.
Listen. Shut up.
The Americans has been my summertime obsession. I started watching after catching a couple of episodes of the Diplomat, starring Keri Russel, which I didn’t love.
Instead, I realised that I needed to get my tiny, curly-haired actress fix by watching six seasons of deeply embedded Russian agents murder people in 1980s Washington. Keri Russell and her real life husband BRITISH Matthew Rhys wander around in terrible wigs alternatively seducing and murdering people as the KGB demands. Meanwhile, their teenage son plays Space Invaders, Tainted Love bangs out during a particularly grizzly murder, everyone gets freaked out by The Day After and there is SO MUCH brown. In short, it evokes the 1980s like no other show (I’m looking at you, Stranger Things).
Anyway, watch The Americans for the satisfying competency of Philip and Elizabeth’s murdering, the pitch perfect portrayal of irritating teenage self-absorption and the perfect tragedy of Martha -- duped, seduced, betrayed and yet somehow dignified despite forty-five layers of hair spray and a wardrobe consisting entirely of polyester.

13 Most Beautiful Libraries in the World
This article has given me a whole new list of places to visit. The Old Library at Trinity College is one of the few I’ve actually seen with my own eye balls.
Old Library of Trinity College (Dublin, Ireland)
Appropriately named the Long Room, this space is located within the Old Library at Trinity College. Previously, the room’s ceiling was flat and only shelved books on the lower level. However, the college was granted a free copy of every book published in Britain and Ireland, requiring the expansion of the cavernous space.
So many bad ideas…
I agree with a lot of these, so I was surprised that the Game of Thrones final season didn’t make the list. That thing was a stinker. Also, I didn’t know that they tried to make a spinoff to Three’s Company called The Ropers. Since Mrs. Roper is increasingly becoming my style North Star, I might need to see see if I can track it down..
and when Three’s Company became an enormous hit for ABC, the producers floated the idea of creating a new show around the nosy landlords the Ropers. This meant removing actors Norman Fell and Audra Lindley from a guaranteed hit (and payday) for a show that might fail and leave them unemployed. To quell those concerns, Fell and Lindley were promised they could return to Three’s Company if their new show, The Ropers, was canceled in less than a year. In the meantime, Don Knotts was brought on as the new landlord on Three’s Company. The Ropers hung around for a season and a half despite dismal ratings.

Amy, what is this book about?
Honor the Dead picks up a few months after Speak for the Dead (book 2 of the Dominion Archives Mystery series). Dr. Cate Spencer has come to terms with her brother's death and is seeking a fresh start in the bucolic Eastern Townships of Quebec while awaiting a decision on her future. Cate is using the time to build new relationships and find peace. When a man is shot through the eye with a metal detector by his side, Cate investigates. Her inquiries uncover the lies, drugs, and violence hidden beneath the picturesque town, exposing long buried secrets and rocking the tenuous peace Cate has built for herself.
